Victoria on High Alert as Bushfire Risk Soars.

Victoria is bracing for one of its hottest and most dangerous fire days in years, with fire authorities on high alert as temperatures soar. Melbourne is set to hit a scorching 41 degrees, while Mildura could climb to a sweltering 46 degrees.

Firefighters and emergency services are on edge, with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) chief warning that the state's bushland is "ready to burn." Conditions have been described as "beyond extreme," and the threat of fires spreading quickly is very real.

Fire Danger and Preparedness

A total fire ban has been declared across most of Victoria, meaning no fires can be lit outdoors. To prepare, the CFA has deployed a large air tanker and 54 other aircraft, ready to respond to any outbreaks.

High fire danger ratings have been issued for the North East, West, and South Gippsland areas, while East Gippsland is rated at moderate risk. CFA Chief Executive Jason Heffernan urged Victorians to stay vigilant."It’s going to be a nasty day. If fires start, they’ll spread rapidly and be hard to contain," he said. Areas of concern include Lake Bolac, Westmere, Cressy, and Winchelsea.

Weather Warnings

The Bureau of Meteorology has also flagged another risk: dry lightning. Meteorologist Michael Efron explained that isolated thunderstorms over central and western Victoria could spark new fires."Dry lightning is a real possibility, and with these conditions, it could trigger fire starts," he said.

Authorities are urging everyone to stay informed, keep an eye on emergency alerts, and be prepared to act quickly. It’s shaping up to be a day where every precaution matters.
