If you live near the Grampians National Park, you might want to pack up and leave now. Emergency services are urging residents in Glenisla, Mooralla, Rocklands, and Woohlpooer to evacuate immediately as a dangerous bushfire continues to burn out of control in Victoria’s southwest.
It’s just one of several fires currently tearing through the state, with five blazes already active within the national park. Overnight, a surge in fire activity sent flames racing in multiple directions. While conditions have calmed slightly this morning, authorities warn that the fire is still threatening private land along Hoffmans Road and Woohlpooer Road.
The fire is heading northwest towards the Henty Highway, which is now closed between Cavendish and Horsham. Authorities are stressing that leaving now is the safest option—waiting too long could mean emergency crews won’t be able to help.
And it’s not just the Grampians. Other fires are burning across the region, with a Watch and Act alert in place for Brimpaen, Wartook, and Zumsteins, just 9km from Halls Gap.
Meanwhile, crews are also battling a massive fire in the Little Desert National Park, which has already grown to a staggering 69,230 hectares. The blaze has destroyed at least one home and a well-known wedding and camping venue.
A Watch and Act warning is in place for several areas, including Lawloit, Kinimakatka, Winiam, Gerang Gerung, and Dimboola. Authorities warn that the situation is unpredictable and could change at any moment.
If you’re in any of these areas, stay alert, monitor emergency updates, and be ready to leave if conditions worsen. Your safety is the top priority.
