South-Eastern Australia Braces for 40°C Heat.

Australia—it’s about to get seriously hot, especially in the south-east! Adelaide is set to sizzle today with a top of 38 degrees, and other parts of South Australia are bracing for even hotter conditions, climbing above 40 degrees. A severe heatwave warning has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology, lasting through the week.

If you’re in Port Augusta, expect a sweltering 41 degrees today, while Oak Valley in the state’s north-west will endure a scorching 44 degrees. And don't count on cooler evenings—minimum temperatures will hover in the mid-20s, keeping the heat and humidity lingering overnight.

The heatwave is expected to spread to New South Wales and Queensland by the weekend. Sydney will feel the heat on Saturday, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees, while Brisbane hits 34 degrees on Sunday. The high humidity will make it feel even hotter—up to four degrees more than the thermometer says!

Victoria will also cop the heat, with Melbourne peaking at 34 degrees tomorrow before things start to cool off later in the day. Cricket fans heading to the Adelaide Oval for the Test match between Australia and India can expect a sweaty 33 degrees at the 2:30 pm start time.

The good news? The heat will ease early next week—but don’t get too comfortable. Another warm spell is already on the horizon. Stay cool and hydrated, everyone!
