Victoria and South Australia are bracing for intense heat starting today, with soaring temperatures and risky fire conditions expected.
Melbourne will hit a scorching 34°C today, climbing to 36°C tomorrow before cooling to a much more comfortable 23°C on Sunday. Over in Adelaide, residents can expect a peak of 36°C today, with some relief coming as temperatures drop to 29°C on Saturday and 25°C on Sunday.
Fire danger is a big concern. Western and central parts of Victoria are under high fire danger warnings today, while East Gippsland is dealing with severe heatwave conditions. Similarly, in South Australia, the Country Fire Service has declared a total fire ban for the West Coast, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, and Lower Eyre Peninsula, where conditions are rated as extreme.
Overnight, some areas will see minimum temperatures hovering around 20°C, making for some warm and sticky evenings. But there’s good news: a cool change is on its way. The Bureau of Meteorology says temperatures should start easing from Sunday as cooler weather moves in from the west, bringing showers and even isolated thunderstorms. There’s a chance of severe thunderstorms in South Australia’s far west later today.
For South Australian residents, the updated Alert SA app is worth checking out. It now provides warnings not just for bushfires, but also for severe weather, heatwaves, floods, and urban fires, so it’s a handy tool to stay informed during this intense weather.
Stay safe, stay hydrated, and keep an eye on the weather updates!
