Australian Border Force (ABF) officers have uncovered a shocking new tactic used by drug smugglers: hiding drugs in baby products like bibs, dummies, sippy cups—and even baby wipes.
Criminals have been caught inserting sealed packets of ketamine and cocaine into baby wipe packs and sending them to Australia through international mail. ABF Acting Commander Troy Sokoloff called it a “disturbing” trend, highlighting the complete disregard these smugglers have for the community, especially when using items associated with vulnerable infants.
Recent interceptions have included:
641g of ketamine sent to a Brisbane address
150g of cocaine sent to Jindalee, Queensland
600g of ketamine posted to St Kilda, Melbourne
Two separate parcels, each containing 500g of ketamine, sent to Sydney addresses in Glebe and Randwick
“These criminals are driven purely by greed,” Sokoloff said. “They don’t care about the damage these drugs cause to people, their families, and communities.”
The ABF, alongside domestic and international law enforcement, is continuing its investigations into these incidents. This concerning trend serves as a reminder of the lengths smugglers will go to in order to bring dangerous substances into the country.
